			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img class="size-thumbnail wp-image-119 alignleft" title="KristenCotner" src="http://www.getsmartgetwise.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/KristenCotner.jpg" alt="Kristen_Cotner_2011" width="200" height="270" />South Mecklenburg High School graduating senior Kristen Cotner is the 2011 recipient of the Kasie Capling Memorial Scholarship. “We are honored to award this scholarship to such an outstanding scholar and to help provide a foundation for Kristen’s career as she continues her education,” said Scotty Jackson, scholarship chair of Charlotte WISE. “She is an exceptional student and person, and we are confident that her contributions to society will be outstanding.” Kristen will attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the fall, where she plans to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.  She will receive a $2,000 scholarship from WISE to assist with her studies.</p>
<p>Among her many accomplishments, Kristen is co-founder/co-president of the Science &amp; Math Academic Enrichment Club, president of the Interact Service Club, chairperson of the food committee for the Charlotte Diversity Summit 2010 Planning Committee, a peer tutor, a mentor and student ambassador for freshmen during her junior and senior years, a Science Olympiad Team member her junior and senior years and a musician, playing violin and viola in various orchestras and chamber ensembles, including NC All-State Honors Orchestra. She also completed an internship at Discovery Place and participated in soccer, volleyball and indoor track.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img class="size-full wp-image-101 alignleft" title="2010_Winner" src="http://www.getsmartgetwise.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/2010_Winner.jpg" alt="2010_Winner" width="258" height="183" />The North Carolina Technology Association (NCTA) Charlotte WISE Chapter announced today that Providence High School graduating senior Autumn Arciero is the 2010 recipient of the Kasie Capling Memorial Scholarship.</p>
<p>“We are pleased to recognize Autumn’s accomplishments by awarding her the scholarship and helping provide a foundation for her education as she pursues her degree in engineering and a career in medicine,” said Scotty Jackson, Scholarship Chair of NCTA Charlotte WISE.</p>
<p><span id="more-100"></span>Arciero, a 2010 graduate of Providence High School in Charlotte, plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the fall, where she will pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering.  In addition to excelling academically, Arciero is also the co-founder and owner of Just Clowning Around and has been involved with many volunteer organizations at school and in the community. She was Treasurer of the National Honor Society, Captain of the tennis team, Student Ambassador and Executive Board Secretary, Junior Class President, and was a member of the Mu Alpha Theta, Key Club, and Committed Young Christians.</p>
<p>WISE selected Candice Brown of Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology as the scholarship runner-up.  Brown received a laptop donated by Lenovo and software donated by Microsoft.  Brown will attend Saint Augustine College in Raleigh, in the Dual Degree Engineering program. With these two scholarships, WISE has awarded eight scholarships over the past few years.</p>

<p>Huynh, a 2009 graduate of North Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, attends North Carolina State University where she is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering.<span id="more-26"></span>  In addition to excelling academically, Huynh has also held a part-time job throughout high school, and has been involved with many volunteer organizations at school and in the community. She was a member of the National Honors Society and participated as a Junior Marshall at North Mecklenburg High School, served as president of the Key Club International, and was a member of Student Council and the Art Club.  Huynh also served as captain for a Relay for Life team, and worked with Habitat for Humanity. Additionally, Huynh is a talented soccer player, playing for the American Youth Soccer Organization’s All Stars team; was first runner-up for Miss North Meck, a pageant for outstanding high school females; and is a talented artist.</p>
<p>Huynh was presented the Kasie Capling Memorial Scholarship for $2,000 and also received a laptop, donated by Lenovo. The presentation was made at the Charlotte WISE luncheon held in Charlotte on June 19th, 2009, which was part of the NCTA Annual Conference “Leaders Driving Change Through Technology: What’s Next.”</p>
